About ISKCON, Sri Jagannath Mandir
The ISKCON Sri Jagannath Mandir was officially opened on 24 September 2005 in a small building located on the Royal Road of Morcellement St Andre.
On that date, there was a welcoming ceremony for the Gaura Nitai Deities (i.e Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and Nityananda Prabhu, Who are incarnations of Lord Krishna and Lord Balaram). The Deities were named “Nitai Jagannath Suta by His Grace Sriniketan Prabhu. Nitai refers to Lord Nityananda Prabhu while ‘Jagannath Suta’ refers to Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the son of Sri Jagannath Misra.
The main Deities of Sri Sri Jagannath, Baladev and Subhadra Maharani were brought at the Centre on 31 May 2006, whilst the Utsav (festival) Deities and Deity of Garuda Dev came on 7 June 2009.
Construction of a large temple is now on-going. More details on the project are available here.
The reason for establishing the ISKCON Sri Jagannath Mandir is to assist the mission of A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, the founder-acharya of ISKCON to make people happy through the teachings of the ancient sacred texts.
